About the author:
Patrick McDonnell claims he has always wanted to be a cartoonist. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1979 and has worked as an illustrator for a number of magazines, from Sports Illustrated to Reader's Digest. In 1994 his comic strip, MUTTS, was launched, and it now appears in over 700 newspapers. Mr. McDonnell received The Reuben, the highest honor given by the National Cartoonists Society, and numerous other honors, including five Harvey Awards for Best Comic Strip. MUTTS has also won awards for its environmental and animal advocacy. In 2005, Mr. McDonnell's first book for children, featuring the MUTTS characters, was published. Art is his second picture book, and he has since written several others, including South, his newest released in September 2008. Mr. McDonnell resides in New Jersey with his wife, Karen O'Connell, and their formerly feral cat, MeeMow.
